The laser programs for the machining process are generated directly from CAD files sent by the customers. 3D data is loaded into the computer system and laser tracks are generated with defined parameters automatically. The files can be sent to us by email to: laser@suomenedm.fi
If bigger files (> 2Mb) are sent, we recommend packing with WinZip or WinRAR.
Below information about different file types and file formats.
3D CAD file formats:
STL (.stl)
The laser programming system generates the laser tracks from the STL file format this is the best suitable file format for us. Note that a high accuracy (tolerance) has to used when saving the STL files from the CAD system. We normally recommend 0,001mm, in some micromachining applications even smaller values may have to be used. On bigger parts or not so accurate geometries a bigger value up to 0,005mm may be used for to save file space.

STEP and IGES (.igs)
CAD information may alternatively be sent in IGES or STEP file format. We are able to convert the files to STL with a special software
2D-file formats:
DXF (.dxf)
Vectorgraphics. Suitable for 2,5D laser engravings. For example: logo-, text- or symbol engravings on flat surfaces. Also more simple 2D geometries are possible to machine using a DXF file. The lines should be saved as polylines. Also remember to inform us the machining depth in case it is not presented on the drawing.

BITMAP (.bmp) ALL IMAGE FILES (EXAMPLE. JPG, GIF…)
Pixelgraphics. Logos, texts, symbols or pictures are possible to engrave by using bitmap files. BMP files are also useful in complicated texturing applications, for decorating / structuring of surfaces. We recommend 8-bit greyscale bitmap pictures with high resolution. Minimum 600dpi, 2540dpi for optimum quality.
